Attractions and Activities
You are spoiled for choice, with the rich diversity of visitor attractions, both in West Lothian itself and further beyond. Drive at leisure, jump on a bus or take the train to the cities from nearby Bathgate railway station

here is a little of what is available to you, within easy drive times from the cottage
Edinburgh and Glasgow - With hundreds of attractions and restaurants
Stirling - The gateway to the Highlands, associations with major
historic events
Stirling Castle and shopping at the Thistle Center
Falkirk - A bustling historic town with two indoor shopping centers, the fantastic Falkirk Wheel
and boat trips on the Lowland Canal network
Blackness - A small village with a 15th century castle on the shores of the River Forth with
fine views over the river to Fife. Nearby is the House of The Binns
Livingston - Shop till you drop at one of Scotland's largest shopping complexes and fabulous designer outlets
South Queensferry and the famous Forth Railway Bridge and Road Bridge
Bo'ness - With it's railway museum and steam train trips to the Birkhill Clay Mine
Linlithgow - A very historic old town. The palace was the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots
The Trossachs - Scotland at it's scenic best and trips to Callander and Aberfoyle are a must!
Activities
Fishing - for brown and rainbow trout on Linlithgow Loch, Beecraigs Reservoir, Bangour Fishery and local rivers. Booking and permits required
Walking - Muiravonside,Beecraigs and Polkemmet Country Parks are all within 15 minutes drive. Alternatively why not walk the extensive path network directly from the cottage?
Golf - There are six 18 hole courses and two 9 hole courses within 15 minutes also a golf driving range at Kingsfield, Linlithgow
Boat Trips - The Maid of The Forth at South Queensferry with lunch and jazz on board also short trips on the Union/Forth & Clyde canals from Linlithgow, Falkirk and Ratho
Keep Fit/Swimming - Armadale, Linlithgow, Livingston are only a short drive
Cinemas - The restored Hippodrome in Bo'ness and multiplexes at Livingston and Falkirk
Eating Out - Good restaurants, hotels and country pubs near Bathgate and Linlithgow or eat in with a delicious take away. Most outlets will deliver to your door
Supermarkets - Tesco, Sainsbury and Asda are all 10 minutes away. There is also a small village shop
for essentials in Westfield village 5 minutes from the cottage.
